The 2014 Christmas Song (You have been Warned!)

There is not much to say about this one. I just had to do this. I wish I had gotten around to it sooner because now I had to rush things a little. But that means my next songs will be even better, right? And if that does not scare you, then nothing will. Merry Christmas, and remember to Be Inspired!

Christmas Song Lyrics

Oh, end grain board, end grain board
Endgrain all the way
Oh what fun it is to make
A cutting board today
Oh, end grain board, end grain board
Endgrain all the way
Oh what fun it is to make
A cutting board today

A day or two ago
I found myself so bored.
And soon my wife proposed,
Why don’t you make a board?
I started to collect,
Parts from my box of scrap,
To use wood to connect,
And make sure it’s not crap.

Dashing through the wood
With table saw of mine,
Through the knots we go,
Making end grain shine;
Balls of sawdust fly,
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to saw and sing
An end grain song tonight

The glue-up was a drag
Had to be done in steps,
Removed a lot of slag,
Prepared for what comes Next;
Three pieces joined as one,
And using grit so low
It took me very long,
But still not flat somehow.

I tried my router table,
Used slats just like a sled,
Thought that it should be able,
But still, things turned out bad.
The board almost broke up,
Just like my patience did,
For now, I just gave up,
Looked for a better gift.

Oh, end grain board, end grain board
Endgrain all the way
Oh what fun it is to make
A cutting board tonight
Oh, end grain board, end grain board
Endgrain all the way
Oh what fun it would have been to make
A cutting board tonight

The Endgrain Cutting Board

To update you on this project, I have since then used the table saw, the miter saw and lots of sandpaper to flatten it properly. With the addition of a few walnut pegs to cover up a few faulty spots, it is seeing regular use in our kitchen ever since.

Thank you for checking out this original Christmas song. If you want to sing it in your shop or at office christmas parties you have my blessing, and depending on how the audience reacts please let them know where you got it from. And while you are here, why not check out the other Christmas projects I made? I do not sing in the other ones, though. Merry Christmas, and remember to be Inspired!
